Fjellpulken Rescue Ā· Supplied in Norway by SPM Sport AS

When someone has to be brought down

Fjellpulken has been building sleds in Lillehammer since 1963. The Rescue series is made for one job: getting an injured person safely down, in steep terrain, in the cold and in poor visibility.

Built for the job

Not a pulk with a stretcher in it

A rescue sled is a different thing from a transport pulk. The hull is shaped to sit steady in steep terrain, it has a mount for alpine handles so two people can steer it downhill, and it can be coupled behind a snowmobile when the distance is long.

The patient lies on an insulating mattress under a removable tunnel cover that keeps wind and snow out. The window over the face lets the crew see the patient the whole way down, without having to open the cover.

The runners take a beating

Under the hull sit reinforced runners with suspension. They are meant to survive being dragged over ice, rock and bare ground, not only freshly groomed snow. The fittings are made to be handled with gloves on.

Details like that are what separate a rescue sled from a transport pulk. It has to work on the day something happens, not just look right in the store room.

The models

Two sleds, two areas of use

The series is deliberately small. Two models cover most needs, and both can be built out with whatever equipment the job calls for.

Skipatrol 200

The best seller. Light and versatile, for patient and equipment alike, and used by aid corps, ski resorts and air ambulance services. 200 cm long, with room for one person.

The handle is fixed to the sled's steering point and follows the terrain. It can be moved, taken off entirely or swapped for a snowmobile hitch, so one or two people can steer.

Alpine 220

Built for ski resorts. 220 cm long, 58 cm wide and 17 kg. A hull in glass-fibre reinforced polyester that glides well and copes with temperature swings, with aluminium profiles underneath that stop the sled sliding sideways in steep terrain.

Removable cordura tunnel cover with a window and zips both ways, an insulating mattress in closed-cell foam, and straps both outside and inside to secure the patient.

Handles and snowmobile accessories

Both models can be used with an ordinary pulling harness, with alpine handles for one or two people, or coupled to a snowmobile. A dedicated snowmobile sledge with independent suspension is available for longer transport.

Who uses them

Where people travel in the winter mountains

The sleds are used where there is speed, cold and a long way to the nearest road. Ski resorts and ski patrols are the largest group, but they are also found with aid corps, emergency response teams and venues that need to be able to bring people down themselves.

The Norwegian Red Cross is among the customers who have had a Fjellpulken rescue sled delivered through us.

About the manufacturer

Fjellpulken Rescue

Over sixty years of sleds

Fjellpulken started in Lillehammer in 1963 and has since become the leading pulk brand in Scandinavia. They make everything from expedition pulks to child pulks, and the Rescue series is the part built for rescue work.

Production is still in Norway, and the equipment is developed for Norwegian conditions. You notice it in details like fittings that can be handled with gloves on, and hulls that survive being dragged over ice and rock.

Frequently asked

What people usually want to know

What is the difference between Skipatrol 200 and Alpine 220?

Alpine 220 is larger, 220 cm long and 58 cm wide, with room for the patient and medical equipment alongside. Skipatrol 200 is lighter and more versatile, and tends to be used where the distances are shorter or the crew is smaller.

Can it be towed by a snowmobile?

Yes. Both models can be coupled to a snowmobile, and there is a dedicated snowmobile sledge with independent suspension for longer transport. On the slope, alpine handles for one or two people are used.

What is included?

That depends on the setup. Alpine 220 comes with two-person alpine handles, a removable tunnel cover and an insulating mattress. A vacuum mattress, splints and other medical equipment can be added.

What is the delivery time?

It varies with the model and what is to be included. Call or send an email, and we check what is in stock and what has to be ordered.

Can we see one before we order?

Get in touch and we will find a way. We are also at most of the trade fairs in the industry, and the sleds are on show there.
